I’ve unearthed some surprising bits of wisdom for new wahms by listening to Johnny Cash lately. I thought I would share some of these tidbits from the Rockabilly legend.

1) Understand Your Man …er, target market!

That’s right. Do you understand your target market? Are you aware of her needs, desires and driving ambitions? Does your website speak to your target audience? If not, perhaps you should make some changes or your website visitor or customer will be “as gone as a wild goose in winter” too!

2) A Boy Named Sue

Life ain’t easy for a boy named Sue…and life ain’t easy for a wahm either. In your business you will have those confidence killers, dream stealers, fun suckers…whatever you want to call them. You will have people who try to tell you that you can’t achieve your goals, that what you try won’t work. Don’t let them get you down!

Sue’s father told him, “This world is rough, and if you’re gonna make it, you’ve gotta be tough.”

How can you get tough in your business?

3) Man In Black- or Branding 101

J.R. Cash didn’t don the all black suit because he didn’t have anything else to wear. It was his trademark. He wore all black for a reason.

What about you? Are you working on your brand? In a world full of Elvis Presleys and Jerry Lee Lewises, how will you stand apart? And remember, your target market doesn’t have to be just like you- Johnny Cash wrote Folsom Prison Blues and connected with inmates when he had never yet step foot in jail!

4) The Legend of John Henry’s Hammer

This song has two bits of wisdom:

a) Learn your business and you will succeed

John Henry’s Daddy told him to: “Learn to a turn a jack, learn to lay a track, learn to pick and shovel too.” Are you learning all you can about Internet Marketing so that you can succeed in your business? Do you reinvest in ebooks, coaching and mentoring, and software like John Henry’s hammer?

b) Technology has its place but it can’t take the place of humans.

When the steam engine threatened to take the place of men, Johnny proved that in the end, humans are more valuable. Learn to use technology (like autoresponders) but remember that your website visitor is a human and inject some of yourself into your marketing efforts.

5) One Piece at a Time

This ballad is about a man who decides to build a Cadillac. He steals one piece at a time from the assembly line “and it didn’t cost him a dime”. But in the end, it didn’t work out exactly like he planned!

Does your website look like a pieced together jalopy? Are you unwilling to spend any money on your own domain and hosting, content with a free site cluttered up with ads?

6) In The Jailhouse Now

Please don’t throw away your hard work by doing one of the following things:

Spamming
Copying other people’s articles or content
Stealing graphics
Clicking on your Adsense ads
Not keeping records and neglecting to pay taxes

It just isn’t worth it, and you may find yourself in the jailhouse. Much better to Walk the Line so you can sleep at night.

7) Ring of Fire

Maybe you’ve made a bad choice… entered into a shotgun romance with a business that’s not right for you. Don’t be afraid to realize this, chuck everything and start over! Don’t beat your head against the wall if, after working hard on a project, you decide it’s just not profitable. Better to find your match and pour your energies into that.

In this song, June Carter Cash chronicles her growing attraction to John. Though they were both involved with other people, they were obviously soul mates and ended up making music and growing old together for the next 40 years.

May you make beautiful music with your business!

Traffic

July 2nd, 2009

You can have the greatest, best looking, most advanced site out there and it is worth nothing without website traffic. There are thousands of sites and methods for getting visitors to your website. The problem is most cost more money then you can make back with sales, or are just too expensive to make sense. There are many free ways to get traffic that most website owners don’t use or just do not know about. For those on a tight budget these methods can increase you work at home business website’s traffic.

Make use of newsletters. Provide people with a catalog of your products and interesting and entertaining articles. If you make it really interesting and entertaining, more people will sign up for your newsletter and recommend it to other people. The more people who sign up for your newsletter, the more people there will be going to your site increasing your traffic.

Take advantage of online forums and online communities. The great thing about forums and online communities is that you can target a certain group that fits the certain demographic that you are looking for. You can discuss about lots of things about the niche that you represent or offer. Another great advantage is that you know what you are getting into and you will be prepared.

With using online communities and forums you can build a reputation for your company. Show them what you are made of and wow them with your range of expertise about the subject, with that you can build a reputation and build trust with the people in your expertise and knowledge.

Write articles that will grab the attention of people that have interest in your product. Try writing articles that will provide tips and guides to your audience. Writing articles that provide good service and knowledge to other people would provide the necessary mileage your traffic flow needs.

Many sites offer free submission and posting of your articles. When people find interest in your articles they have a good chance of following the track by finding out where the article originated. Include a link or a brief description of your company with the article and there’s a great probability that they will go to your site.

Write good content for your site. Many search engines track down the keywords and keyword phrases your site uses and how they are used. It is not a requirement that content should be done by a professional content writer, but it needs to look professional for your readers and the search engines. It should provide certain requirements targeting your niche as well as great quality to keep your readers coming back. Generally, internet users use search engines to find what they are looking for. Search engines in return use keyword searching in aiding their search results. With the right keywords, you could get high rankings in search engine results without the costs.
Create pages on Squidoo to further promote your site. This effort will give you free visitors and backlinks from a quality site. Go further writing articles and linking them also to your Squidoo lens’s. This will give your lens site more authority making the links pointing to your main website even more attractive to the search engines.

Another great idea is trading links with other sites. You don’t have to spend a cent. All you have to do is reach an agreement with another webmaster. With exchanging links, the efforts on both sites do will benefit both sites. All traffic that goes to the site could potentially click on the link to your site sending you traffic. This works well especially well when both sites feature the same niche.

Bookmark your website, your Squidoo site and all your articles with all the free social bookmarking sites you can find. This once again will give more backlinks, creating a link circle giving even more attractiveness to your website.

Ask to become an author on some different blogs in your niche. This would give the blog owner more content, and give you the ability to gain even more backlinks and traffic. If you do this method make sure you are writing great content, because if you posting crap, you will not stay an author very long.

All these methods take a lot of time and effort, but they will help you build steady traffic to your work from home business website and they will also help your search engine ranking.

– Can You Do It?

July 1st, 2009

Working at home – a great thing – but it is still working at least part time. Money isn’t free. But you can earn outside the box. The box that tells you when you begin, when you are to break and when you will eat lunch and when you will go home. Tells you when and if you get a vacation and how long it can be.

What is outside?
Sure, you might be working on Monday evening. But then again, you can choose to go to the zoo with the children on Wednesday afternoon. Have you got any idea how much less crowded the zoo is on a weekday, even in the summer? I like to picnic for lunch, I take the kids to the park, we have a little walk, spread out a blanket and eat our lunch. We pack up and go back home. The kids take a nap while I check email and return calls. Children happy, clients happy, me happy. Yes, telecommuting rules!

Money, money
It’s nice to think we don’t need money. But the fact is, we do. Do we need to make it under someone else’s thumb? Americans are famous for our individualism. We, for the most part want to live life our way. Most of us don’t want a job or a company to run us. But what we must do is find “I will” power within ourselves. This “I will” power is what makes you sit down and do the work you promised to do.

The current crop of get rich quick promises, give the impression you just can sleep all day, watch your favorite soap opera or rerun and saunter out to the mailbox and have checks waiting for you. Well, I’m going to slap you, NO that doesn’t happen. Any who promise that are lying to you. Wake up.

Education
In the last few generations, we heard how a degree is the only way to succeed to great income. Not necessarily so. Some of the richest folks in American didn’t go to college. As of 2009 we see listed Bill Gates (Microsoft, dropped out of Harvard), Lawrence Ellison (databases, dropped out of Illinois University), numbers 4, 5 6 & 7 are all Waltons. Sam Walton, didn’t go to college, he just had an idea and worked very hard to achieve it.

So a special education isn’t necessary. It’s good, but not necessary. It is “I will” power that gets any and all folks going. Lazy doesn’t do it.

Products and skills
Once you determine you have the will to govern yourself and you have the grit to push through the “I don’t wannas”. What do you do? Do you have a skill you can use from home? This is tricky because you can get snookered into scams. I dare say the virtual assistant stuff, well some of it, is legitimate. But the competition for work is pretty intense. Just about anybody thinks they can type. So they give it a go.

Also out there are customer assistance companies. They claim to use workers from home. I investigated a couple, they seems legitimate. However, it has now been five months since I put my name in and was “interviewed”. And nothing has come in. Most likely, the same problem. Lots of folks think they can answer phones. So they give that a go too. This may account for customer support persons who you cannot understand. If you have poor speaking skills and slur words together, don’t do apply for this work, please.

Get a product is what you hear. A product? What about quality or usefulness? There are many who think selling anything will be fine. Really? Unless the guy that came up with the smiley face copyrighted it and gets residuals every time it gets used, he isn’t making money from it. Anyone remember the Pet Rock?

Scams and out of pocket costs
As you travel around the internet you see “send me X dollars and I’ll show you how to make 100 times more than that”. Now, friends, what do they need to show you? You will be told to do just the same, sell hype. Thousands of dollars made by supplying Google with links may be legitimate, but again you must work hard to make any money.

So anything that promises you no work and money will pour in, stay away from. Yes they couch it in heart racing, exciting language. They show images of expensive cars and some house someone took a picture of. All with upbeat music playing.

Then we have those that offer their wares free but to get the plan they give you going, you must buy all sorts of software or specialized instruments. Been there? They make money from you buy selling the “necessary” items. Then you must do the same.

Let’s not however, lump in some of the legitimate offers for business. They are out there. Real brick and mortar companies that have real products to sell. Some companies have elected to let their products be sold by independent business owners. These aren’t too common. But they are there. Even the real ones, might require you to put some money in the pot to get up and going. The money might be for the initial package of the products. You can’t sell the product, if you don’t have any. So look at these carefully and closely. Real companies will offer 30 day money back guarantees. You will find the corporate website which is up front in what they have to offer. It will not be filled with vague “happy” language. No Rolls Royces or castles in Germany.

What am I doing now?
I have extensive experience in secretarial and technology work. I spent many years in both fields. I headed up the typeset department of a small publishing business and have licenses in insurance and in medical assisting. Have worked my own niche business for 5 years. However with the downturn of the economy, my income began falling. I considered going back into the work box. I was determined to stay home with the kids. Determined. I had been looking around for months at what I might use to add to my income. As you see from reading the above. Nothing panned out. I didn’t put in nearly all of the things I ran into. I’m sure you have a lot to talk about too.

I did find one of those legitimate companies, read up on it. I talked to folks already working inside of the company as independent business owners. I gave it a chance. I believe it is going to work for me. I can sleep at night, comfortable with the products. I am not concerned that God frowns upon what I do. And he is the one CEO I answer to. And he doesn’t care what time I take lunch.

I hope my ramblings will be of service to you. Be careful out there.

The Best New Penny Auction, Libertybids.com

July 1st, 2009

The all new Penny Auction, Libertybids.com

Not just any penny auction, but the one you can bid on and win everything for up to 95% off the retail prices of gift cards, video game systems, computer products and more.

We have been in the computer business since 1986 and started out selling Epson computers without hard drives as they ran on a two floppy disk system. We come a long way since those days.

Since then we have built websites, hosted websites, ran websites.

We were looking for a penny auction that was honest and safe. We found several good penny auctions but most of them use autobidders to outbid you until they get the price they want for the auction. These auto bidders can bid 500 times in one hour so you really don’t have a good chance to win the auction for a low price.

If you consider the bid packs range from .75 to 2.00 per bid plus you pay the ending auction price plus shipping, it is costing you more to win an auction.

Our penny auction, Libertybids.com offers all the auctions final price of 1 penny. Our bid packs cost only .50 per bid and you get free bids for signing up and free bids for winning an auction.

We do not use autobidders and yes we may lose money on some auctions but overall we can come out ahead. We are not in it to get rich quick or get rich period but to offer an honest penny auction and earn a a decent amount.

Our Penny Auctions offer gift cards to many different retail stores, video game systems, computer products and much more. We guarantee a good time, great products and an honest company. You can call us, email us or chat with us. We are located in Louisiana not some third world country where we can’t be located.

Please check us out, you will not regret it.

Come join us for our grand opening on July 1, 2009. We have had over 100 sign-ups so far and we intend to grow to at least 1000 customers within the next 6 months. This will allow us to offer more and more auctions and bidders will have better chance at cheap auctions.

Would you bid up to $10.00 to win an auction worth $50.00 or a new Wii video system that retails for $300 for $75.00. Then come join us at Libertybids.com and share the excitement.

Our auctions run from 9am to 11pm right now. As our following increases we will offer auctions that end anytime, 24 hours per day. This means greater chances of pickup that item at up to 95% of the retail value. A great way to get gift giving products for a fraction that you may now be paying.

My name is Cory and I run the Libertybids.com Penny Auction site. You can contact me at ritcheycs@yahoo.com, cory@libertybids.com or send me an invitation from Yahoo chat.

Come sign up now at Libertybids.com and get 5 free bids just for registering. You also get free bids when you win an auction. Free bids for sending your friends to register.
